বিশ্বের শীর্ষ অর্থনীতি যুক্তরাষ্ট্র। দেশটির ক্রমবর্ধমান মূল্যস্ফীতি ও সুদহারের মধ্যকার টানাপড়েন এখন গোটা বৈশ্বিক অর্থনীতিতেই প্রভাব ফেলতে শুরু করেছে। উদ্বেগ বাড়ছে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্পের শুল্কনীতি, সরকারি ঋণের ঊর্ধ্বমুখিতা ও ফেডের নীতিসিদ্ধান্ত গ্রহণের স্বাধীনতা নিয়ে। দেশটির অর্থনীতির সুচকগুলোও খুব একটা স্বাভাবিক আচরণ করছে না। বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন দেশেই এখন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের এ পরিস্থিতির পুনরাবৃত্তির জোর আশঙ্কা দেখা দিয়েছে। নানামুখী অনিশ্চয়তার প্রেক্ষাপটে এসব দেশে এখন সরকারি বন্ড থেকে বিনিয়োগ প্রত্যাহারের প্রবণতা বাড়ছে। ফলে বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন দেশে সরকারি বন্ডের বিক্রয় চাপও এখন ক্রমেই বেড়ে চলেছে।

সম্প্রতি যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সঙ্গে স্বাক্ষরিত শুল্ক চুক্তি রাইট টু ইনফরমেশনের (আরটিআই) আওতায় উভয়পক্ষ রাজি হলেই জনসম্মুখে প্রকাশ করা হবে বলে জানিয়েছেন বাণিজ্য উপদেষ্টা শেখ বশিরউদ্দীন। জয়পুরহাটের আক্কেলপুরে গতকাল স্থানীয় গোপীনাথপুর উচ্চ বিদ্যালয় মাঠে সাংবাদিকদের সঙ্গে আলাপকালে এ কথা জানান তিনি। আলুচাষীদের জন্য ন্যায্যমূল্য নিশ্চিত করার বিষয়ে বাণিজ্য উপদেষ্টা বলেন, ‘গত বছর আলুর দাম কেজিপ্রতি ৮০-৯০ টাকা ছিল। ফলে এ বছর আগের তুলনায় প্রচুর আলু উৎপাদন করেছেন চাষীরা।’ তিনি বলেন, ‘আগামী এক মাসের মধ্যে আলুর দাম কিছুটা বাড়তে পারে। এ ক্ষেত্রে রফতানিই একমাত্র উপায়। এজন্য আমরা প্রণোদনা ও সহযোগিতা করছি। চাহিদা তৈরির চেষ্টা করা হচ্ছে। এছাড়া টিসিবির মাধ্যমে বাজার থেকেও আলু কেনা হবে। আলু রফতানির লক্ষ্য অর্জনে সরকার কাজ করছে। এ পদক্ষেপের মাধ্যমে চাষী ও ক্রেতা উভয়ের স্বার্থই সুরক্ষিত রাখা হবে।’

ইউরোস্ট্যাটের তথ্য অনুযায়ী, গত জুলাইয়ে আগের মাসের তুলনায় ইউরোজোনে খুচরা খাতে বিক্রি কমেছে দশমিক ৫ শতাংশ, যা বাজারের প্রত্যাশার তুলনায় বেশি পতন। একই মাসে ইউরোপীয় ইউনিয়নজুড়ে বিক্রি কমেছে দশমিক ৪ শতাংশ। তবে ইউরোজোনের জন্য মাসিক ভিত্তিতে দশমিক ৩ শতাংশ হ্রাসের বাজার পূর্বাভাস ছিল। অঞ্চলটিতে গাড়ির জ্বালানির মতো বিশেষায়িত খাতে জুলাইয়ে সর্বোচ্চ পতন দেখা গেছে, জুনের তুলনায় বিক্রি কমেছে ১ দশমিক ৭ শতাংশ। অন্যদিকে বার্ষিক ভিত্তিতে ইউরোজোনে খুচরা বিক্রি জুলাইয়ে ২ দশমিক ২ ও ইইউতে ২ দশমিক ৪ শতাংশ বেড়েছে, যা পূর্বাভাসের তুলনায় কম।

কিয়ার বিদ্যুচ্চালিত মডেল ইভি৫ বাহন হিসেবে বিভিন্ন দেশে জনপ্রিয় হয়ে উঠেছে। এবার দক্ষিণ কোরিয়ার বাজারে উন্মোচন হয়েছে এ ইলেকট্রিক স্পোর্ট ইউটিলিটি ভেহিকেল (এসইউভি), যা দেশটির ফ্যামিলি সাইজ ইভির বাজারে শীর্ষস্থানে উঠে আসবে বলে ধারণা কোম্পানিটির। এর আগে একই বাজারে ইভি৬, ইভি৯, ইভি৩ ও ইভি৪ উন্মোচন করে কিয়া। সর্বশেষ মডেল হিসেবে ইভি৫-এ থাকছে হালনাগাদ সুরক্ষা ব্যবস্থা ও ফিচার। দক্ষিণ কোরিয়ায় কিয়ার ব্যবসা বিভাগের প্রধান জং ওয়ান-জং বলছেন, ‘প্রচলিত এসইউভির আকারে তৈরি হয়েছে ইভি৫। কোরিয়ায় জনপ্রিয় হয়ে ওঠা ইভির বাজারে এটি নতুন মান প্রস্তাব করছে। যারা সাশ্রয়ী মূল্যের পারিবারিক ইভি কেনার কথা ভাবছেন, তাদের জন্য ইভি৫ হবে সবচেয়ে আকর্ষণীয় পছন্দ।’ নতুন এ সংস্করণে প্রথমবারের মতো হুন্দাই মোটর গ্রুপের অ্যাকসিলারেশন কন্ট্রোল অ্যাসিস্ট্যান্স যোগ করা হয়েছে। দীর্ঘ সময় ধরে পেডাল চেপে ধরার ক্ষেত্রে ফিচারটি চালককে সতর্ক করে দেবে।

উচ্চ শুল্ক থেকে জাপানি গাড়ি নির্মাতাদের কিছুটা ছাড় দিয়েছেন মার্কিন প্রেসিডেন্ট ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প। তা সত্ত্বেও দেশটির ছোট গাড়ি কোম্পানির জন্য এটি বড় ধাক্কা হিসেবেই রয়ে গেছে। ফলে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের মতো গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বাজারে চাপের মুখে থাকবে জাপানের কিছু অটো ব্র্যান্ড। শুরুতে জাপান থেকে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে আমদানীকৃত গাড়ির ওপর ২৭ দশমিক ৫ শতাংশ শুল্ক আরোপ করেন ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প। পরে বাণিজ্য চুক্তির আওতায় তা ১৫ শতাংশ নির্ধারণ করা হয়। গত বৃহস্পতিবার ট্রাম্প স্বাক্ষরিত এক আদেশের মাধ্যমে ছাড়কৃত শুল্ক কার্যকর হয়। বাজার বিশ্লেষকরা বলছেন, ১৫ শতাংশ শুল্ক টয়োটা ও হোন্ডার মতো বড় কোম্পানিগুলো সামাল দিতে পারবে। এর বিপরীতে বিপত্তিতে পড়বে মিৎসুবিশি মোটরস, মাজদা ও সুবারুর মতো তুলনামূলক ছোট বাজারব্যাপ্তির কোম্পানিগুলো। কারণ বড় কোম্পানিগুলোর বাজার বিশ্বজুড়ে বিস্তৃত হলেও এ কোম্পানিগুলো অনেকটাই যুক্তরাষ্ট্রনির্ভর। পরিস্থিতি সামাল দিতে তারা গাড়ির দাম বাড়াতে পারে। কিন্তু তা মার্কিন বাজারে মূল্যস্ফীতি বাড়াতে পারে।

শেয়ারবাজারে বড় ধরনের ধাক্কা খেল জার্মান গাড়ি নির্মাতা পোরশে। দেশটির শীর্ষ শেয়ারবাজার সূচক ডিএএক্স থেকে স্টুটগার্ট-ভিত্তিক এ স্পোর্টস কার কোম্পানি বাদ পড়ছে। মার্কিন প্রেসিডেন্ট ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প আরোপিত শুল্কের কারণে সম্প্রতি বাজারে বেশকিছু প্রতিবন্ধকতার মুখে পড়েছে পোরশে। এর মধ্যেই জার্মান শেয়ারবাজারের প্রধান সূচকটি থেকে বাদ পড়ে গেল কোম্পানিটি। ফ্রাংকফুর্ট স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জে তালিকাভুক্ত সবচেয়ে বড় ও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ৪০টি কোম্পানির শেয়ারদরের ওঠানামার ওপর ভিত্তি করে নির্ধারিত হয় ডিএএক্স সূচক। এতে পোরশের স্থলাভিষিক্ত হচ্ছে অনলাইন মার্কেটপ্লেস স্টাউট২৪ এসই। ২২ সেপ্টেম্বর থেকে এ পরিবর্তন কার্যকর হবে। ডিএএক্স সূচক জার্মানির অর্থনৈতিক শক্তিমত্তার মানদণ্ড হিসেবে বিবেচিত। এ সূচকে থাকতে হলে কোম্পানিগুলোকে নির্দিষ্ট মান ও মুনাফার শর্ত পূরণ করতে হয়।

সর্বশেষ দুই দশকে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের রেস্তোরাঁ পরিষেবায় বিশেষ স্থান দখল করে নিয়েছে ভারতীয় খাবার। একসময়কার সস্তা কারি হাউজ বা কারি ঘর ও বুফে রেস্তোরাঁ এখন উঁচুমানের ও বিলাসবহুল ডাইনিং অভিজ্ঞতা দিচ্ছে ভোক্তাদের। এ পরিবর্তনের নেপথ্যে রয়েছেন শেফ বিকাশ খান্নার মতো ব্যক্তিরা, যিনি মার্কিন মুলুকে ভারতীয় খাবার পরিবেশনার বিবর্তনকে খুব কাছ থেকে দেখেছেন। বিকাশ খান্না এক দশকের বেশি আগে নিউইয়র্ক সিটিতে ভারতীয় রেস্তোরাঁ ‘জুনুন’ প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। তার উদ্দেশ্য ছিল ভারতীয় খাবারের একটি উন্নত সংস্করণ আন্তর্জাতিক প্রেক্ষাপটে তুলে ধরা। এ প্রচেষ্টার ফলস্বরূপ জুনুন অর্জন করে মিশেলিন স্টার। ভারতীয় রেস্তোরাঁগুলোর মধ্যে প্রথম স্বীকৃতি পাওয়ার ঘটনা ছিল এটি। তবে বিকাশ খান্না কর্মজীবনের শুরুর দিকে এতটা স্বাধীনতা পাননি। তিনি জানান, ৯/১১ পরবর্তী যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে তৎকালীন রেস্তোরাঁ মালিকরা ভারতীয় খাবারের বৈচিত্র্য নিয়ে পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষা করতে দ্বিধাগ্রস্ত ছিলেন। তাই মার্কিনদের পছন্দের সেই চিরাচরিত বাটার চিকেন ও টিক্কা মাসালার মতো খাবারেই সীমাবদ্ধ ছিলেন তিনি।

সহযোগী প্রতিষ্ঠান কনফিডেন্স সিমেন্ট ঢাকা লিমিটেডে (সিসিডিএল) থাকা সব শেয়ার বিক্রির সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে তালিকাভুক্ত কনফিডেন্স সিমেন্ট পিএলসির পর্ষদ। এ বিষয়ে শেয়ারহোল্ডারদের অনুমোদন নিতে ১৮ অক্টোবর বিশেষ সাধারণ সভা (ইজিএম) আহ্বান করেছে কোম্পানিটি। এ-সংক্রান্ত রেকর্ড ডেট নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে ২৪ সেপ্টেম্বর। এক মূল্যসংবেদনশীল তথ্যের মাধ্যমে বিষয়টি জানিয়েছে কনফিডেন্স সিমেন্ট। তথ্যানুসারে, কৌশলগত উদ্দেশ্য ও তাৎক্ষণিক আর্থিক প্রয়োজনে সিসিডিএলে থাকা মোট ১৪ কোটি ৯ লাখ ৭৫ হাজার ১৫৭টি শেয়ার ১০ টাকা মূল্যে বিক্রি করবে কনফিডেন্স সিমেন্ট। শেয়ারগুলো বিক্রি ও হস্তান্তর হবে কোম্পানিটির আরেক সহযোগী প্রতিষ্ঠান কনফিডেন্স পাওয়ার হোল্ডিংস লিমিটেডের (সিপিএইচএল) অনুকূলে। শেয়ার বিক্রির মোট মূল্য নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে ১৪০ কোটি ৯৭ লাখ ৫১ হাজার ৫৭০ টাকা। এ বিষয়ে কনফিডেন্স সিমেন্ট ও সিপিএইচএলের মধ্যে চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরিত হবে। শেয়ারহোল্ডাদের অনুমোদনের পর চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত কার্যকর হবে।

দেশের পুঁজিবাজারে গত সপ্তাহে সূচক ও লেনদেনে ঊর্ধ্বমুখিতা দেখা গেছে। আলোচ্য সপ্তাহে প্রধান পুঁজিবাজার ঢাকা স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জের (ডিএসই) সার্বিক সূচক ১ দশমিক ৭৫ শতাংশ বেড়েছে। পাশাপাশি এক্সচেঞ্জটির দৈনিক গড় লেনদেন বেড়েছে ১৩ শতাংশের বেশি। ডিএসইর সাপ্তাহিক প্রতিবেদনে এ তথ্য জানা গেছে। বাজার বিশ্লেষণে দেখা যায়, গত সপ্তাহে ডিএসইএক্স সূচক আগের সপ্তাহের তুলনায় ৯৬ দশমিক ৩৩ পয়েন্ট বেড়ে ৫ হাজার ৬১৪ পয়েন্টে দাঁড়িয়েছে, গত সপ্তাহে যা ছিল ৫ হাজার ৫১৮ পয়েন্ট। নির্বাচিত কোম্পানির সূচক ডিএস-৩০ সপ্তাহের ব্যবধানে ২৫ দশমিক ৭৭ পয়েন্ট বেড়ে ২ হাজার ১৮৩ পয়েন্টে দাঁড়িয়েছে, আগের সপ্তাহ শেষে যা ছিল ২ হাজার ১৫৭ পয়েন্ট। ডিএসইর শরিয়াহ সূচক ডিএসইএস গত সপ্তাহে ২২ দশমিক ৮৬ পয়েন্ট বেড়ে ১ হাজার ২৩০ পয়েন্টে দাঁড়িয়েছে, আগের সপ্তাহ শেষে যা ছিল ১ হাজার ২০৭ পয়েন্ট।

ওষুধ ও রসায়ন খাতে তালিকাভুক্ত ওরিয়ন ইনফিউশন লিমিটেডের গত সপ্তাহের পাঁচ কার্যদিবসে মোট ২১৮ কোটি ৭৩ লাখ ৫০ হাজার টাকার লেনদেন হয়েছে। সে হিসাবে কোম্পানিটির দৈনিক গড় লেনদেন হয়েছে ৪৩ কোটি ৭৪ লাখ ৭০ হাজার টাকা। আলোচ্য সপ্তাহে ঢাকা স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জের (ডিএসই) মোট লেনদেনে কোম্পানিটির অবদান ছিল ৩ দশমিক ৩৭ শতাংশ। ডিএসইর সাপ্তাহিক হালনাগাদ প্রতিবেদনে এ তথ্য জানা গেছে। আর্থিক প্রতিবেদন অনুসারে, সর্বশেষ সমাপ্ত ২০২৪-২৫ হিসাব বছরের প্রথম তিন প্রান্তিকে (জুলাই-মার্চ) ওরিয়ন ইনফিউশনের শেয়ারপ্রতি আয় (ইপিএস) হয়েছে ১ টাকা ৪০ পয়সা, আগের হিসাব বছরে যা ছিল ১ টাকা ৪৫ পয়সা। ৩১ মার্চ ২০২৫ শেষে কোম্পানিটির শেয়ারপ্রতি নিট সম্পদমূল্য (এনএভিপিএস) দাঁড়িয়েছে ১৫ টাকা ৭১ পয়সায়।

Bangladesh loses approximately $1.48 billion (Tk 162 billion) each year in remittance outflows due to high transfer fees, hidden charges, and unfavorable exchange rates, according to estimates shared by international fintech company NALA.The figure represents 2.025 per cent of the national budget and 0.33 per cent of the country’s GDP. The data was revealed at a special 'Meet the Press' event organised by international fintech company and money transfer app NALA to highlight its operations and future plans in Bangladesh, held at a hotel in Dhaka on Saturday, UNB reports. Global remittances stood at nearly $905 billion in 2024. However, an estimated $57 billion was lost worldwide due to high fees, hidden charges, and unfavorable exchange rates. Speaking at the event, Mahmudul Hasan, Head of Growth, NALA Bangladesh, said, “Our commitment is to ensure that the hard-earned money of Bangladeshi expatriates reaches their families in Bangladesh quickly, safely, and with zero fees. We know that migrants endure immense hardship abroad to support their loved ones. Every dollar they send home not only sustains families but also strengthens the overall economy of Bangladesh. NALA is working to remove unnecessary costs, hidden charges, and delays in this process.”

Prices of egg, onions and most of the vegetables rose by 6.0-128 per cent over the past three months, causing further woes to the consumers, according to the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission (BTTC). In its latest report on essential commodities, the BTTC said although the prices of eggs, onions, and potatoes remained comparatively low than that of last year, the recent price surges hit people with limited income. Over the past three months, the prices of eggs, potatoes, onions, colocasia stem, pointed gourd, teasel gourd, lady's finger, brinjal, and ash gourd went up significantly. Among the items, the prices of green chilli saw the highest 128 per cent rise, the report said, adding that the price of green papaya, on the other hand, registered a 50 per cent decline during the period. However, the BTTC report mentioned that prices of eggs, onions, potatoes, green chilli, and brinjal were 6.0 to 57 per cent lower at the beginning of this month in comparison with that in September 2024.

Bangladesh's apparel export to the United States posted a robust 21.68-percent growth in the first seven months of 2025 and exporters expect a better tomorrow as Trump tariff turmoil changes trade equations. According to US official count, the export to the country's single-largest market grew both in terms of value and volume during the period-even under shadows of much-talked-about oncoming tariff hikes. Readymade garment exports from Bangladesh during the January-July period singly fetched US$4.98 billion, marking the 21.68-percent growth, according to the data released Tuesday by OTEXA, an affiliate of the US Department of Commerce. Bangladesh earned US$ 4.09 billion by trading out its main export item to the US in the same period of 2024. The growth rate also surpassed the global average of 4.98 per cent, placing Bangladesh ahead of main competitors, though Vietnam became top exporter pushing China behind in the changing trade paradigm.

No top bureaucrat can be chairman or director of public-sector commercial banks and financial institutions under a new rulebook in the making to rectify past misrule that bred massive scams, officials said. The post-uprising Bangladesh government is preparing the guidelines for appointing Chairman and Directors at these institutions as part of its vast reform recipe, including in banking and financial sector. After the appointment/selection of the directors, their continuity would be based on their annual-performance report, to be reviewed by the Chairman of the board, official sources said. Among the directors a chartered or cost management accountant, a lawyer and a skilled banker must be included, they said. "A director or chairman would be allowed to continue for maximum two terms," reads the draft guideline, being prepared by the Financial Institutions Division (FID) under the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

That the Bangladesh Bank (BB) has, at last, embarked on its avowed plan to rescue the problem-ridden five Shariah-based banks through a process of merger or otherwise is a piece of welcome news. For thousands of depositors of these banks have been passing highly anxious times. The high-ups of the central bank have begun discussions with the authorities concerned about the ways of dealing with the crisis the banks in question are facing. Two banks --- the First Security Islamic Bank and the Union Bank --- have agreed to go through the merger process while EXIM Bank has declined and offered to submit a detailed plan that, it hopes, would help the bank make a turnaround. The Islamic banks in question are now in a pitiable condition because of their huge default loans. Political cronies and other influential quarters looted funds of these banks with support coming from the government and banking sector regulator.

Not long ago, the Biman Bangladesh Airlines reported its highest ever annual profit of Tk 9.37 billion. The record earnings in the financial year (FY) 2024-25 seemed at first to offer a rare moment of good news for the national carrier and a reason for celebration. But instead of being welcomed with applause, the news started a big argument on social media and in the Press, as the profit figure was soon overshadowed by revelations that the airline owes more than Tk 81 billion to state bodies. Consequently, many have dismissed the reported profit as little more than a paper gain. A breakdown of these debts reveals that Biman owes about Tk 63 billion to the Civil Aviation Authority including Tk 9.0 billion in principal debt and Tk 54 billion in surcharges, income tax, VAT and other charges. On top of that, the airline reportedly owes Tk 18 billion to the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation for fuel purchases. It is this heavy load of unpaid dues that fuelled public scepticism over how an airline so deeply in debt can credibly claim to be in its best condition.

Ananda Shipyard & Slipways Ltd, located at Meghna Ghat in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, is set to export a 5,500-deadweight-ton (DWT) modern multipurpose vessel, "Wes Wire," to Turkey. The vessel will be officially handed over tomorrow (7 September) to NOPAC Shipping & Trading Ltd, a renowned Turkish company, completing the export process. The handover ceremony will be attended by Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain, adviser for the Ministry of Shipping as well as the Ministry of Labour and Employment. Also present will be Adilur Rahman Khan, adviser for the Ministry of Industries and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, along with Ramiz Sen, the Turkish ambassador to Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (Bepza) expects to start allocating industrial plots to investors at the under-construction Patuakhali Export Processing Zone (EPZ) from the first quarter of next year. ASM Anwar Parvez, Bepza's executive director (public relations), told TBS, "The development work will be completed by June 2026, but we may start allocating plots from early 2026. Factory construction and land development will continue simultaneously."

If the proposed merger of five troubled Islamic banks goes through, Bangladesh will get its largest lender. As Anis A Khan, former chairman of the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB), points out, the new entity would hold assets worth nearly Tk2.2 lakh crore, surpassing state-owned Sonali Bank. On paper, this promises scale and stability, a milestone for the sector. Fahmida Khatun, executive director of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), says the merger's primary objective is simple: to prevent systemic collapse. Closing these banks abruptly could trigger panic among depositors, businesses, and employees – an outcome that regulators cannot risk.

Natural gas has been discovered at the Rashidpur-3 well under Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL) during a workover operation carried out yesterday (5 September). According to a press release issued by SGFL, the well is expected to produce around 25.55 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas over the next 10 years. It added that the estimated cost of the workover operation is Tk73 crore. Based on the current LNG price of Tk65 per cubic metre, the market value of the extracted gas is projected at approximately Tk4,700 crore.
