দেশের গ্যাস দিয়ে স্থানীয় চাহিদা পূরণ না হওয়ায় ২০১৮ সাল থেকে তরলীকৃত প্রাকৃতিক গ্যাস (এলএনজি) আমদানি শুরু করে সরকার। ওমান ও কাতার থেকে দীর্ঘমেয়াদি চুক্তির পাশাপাশি স্পট মার্কেট থেকেও আনা দেশের গ্যাস দিয়ে স্থানীয় চাহিদা পূরণ না হওয়ায় ২০১৮ সাল থেকে তরলীকৃত প্রাকৃতিক গ্যাস (এলএনজি) আমদানি শুরু করে সরকার। ওমান ও কাতার থেকে দীর্ঘমেয়াদি চুক্তির পাশাপাশি স্পট মার্কেট থেকেও আনা হচ্ছে এ জ্বালানি। স্পট মার্কেটে এলএনজির দাম পরিবর্তনশীল হওয়ায় কোনো কারণে তা বেড়ে গেলে বিপদে পড়তে হয় বাংলাদেশকে। তাছাড়া যেসব প্রতিষ্ঠানের কাছ থেকে কেনা হয়, সেগুলো নিয়েও রয়েছে বিতর্ক। এ অবস্থায় অন্তর্বর্তীকালীন সরকার স্পট মার্কেটের ওপর নির্ভরতা কমিয়ে দীর্ঘমেয়াদি উৎস থেকে এলএনজি আমদানির দিকে ঝুঁকছে।

‘করাচি থেকে সরাসরি পণ্যবাহী একটি জাহাজ চট্টগ্রাম বন্দরে এসেছে, যা ছিল দুই দেশের মধ্যে প্রথম সরাসরি সামুদ্রিক সংযোগ। এ যাত্রা দুই দেশের মধ্যে সরাসরি বাণিজ্যের ক্রমবর্ধমান চাহিদাকে তুলে ধরেছে’.

পুঁজিবাজারে তালিকাভুক্ত প্রকৌশল খাতের প্রতিষ্ঠান বিএসআরএম স্টিলস লিমিটেডের পর্ষদ আগামী বছরের শুরুতে নতুন কারখানায় বাণিজ্যিক উৎপাদন শুরু করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে। গতকাল ঢাকা স্টক একচেঞ্জের (ডিএসই) মাধ্যমে এ তথ্য জানিয়েছে কোম্পানিটি।তথ্যানুসারে, চট্টগ্রামের মিরসরাইয়ে অবস্থিত কোম্পানিটির নতুন রোলিং মিলসের কাজ চলতি বছরের মাঝামাঝি সময়ে শেষ হওয়ার কথা ছিল। অবশেষে কারখানাটি আগামী বছরের ১ জানুয়ারি বাণিজ্যিক উৎপাদন শুরু করতে যাচ্ছে। কারখানাটি বার্ষিক ছয় লাখ টন এমএস রড ও ওয়্যার রড উৎপাদন করবে।

পুঁজিবাজারে তালিকাভুক্ত ব্রিটিশ আমেরিকান টোব্যাকো বাংলাদেশ কোম্পানি (বিএটিবিসি) লিমিটেড ও ফিলিপ মরিস বাংলাদেশ লিমিটেড (পিএমবিএল) একটি উৎপাদন ও সরবরাহ চুক্তি করেছে। চুক্তি অনুযায়ী, গত ১২ নভেম্বর থেকে পিএমবিএলের কিছু তামাক পণ্যের উৎপাদন বিএটিবিসির কারখানায় শুরু হয়েছে। গতকাল ডিএসই সূত্রে এ তথ্য জানা গেছে।তথ্যানুসারে, চলতি ২০২৪ হিসাব বছরের তৃতীয় প্রান্তিকের (জুলাই-সেপ্টেম্বর) অনিরীক্ষিত আর্থিক প্রতিবেদনের ওপর ভিত্তি করে বিনিয়োগকারীদের জন্য ১৫০ শতাংশ অন্তর্বর্তী নগদ লভ্যাংশ ঘোষণা করেছে। লভ্যাংশসংক্রান্ত রেকর্ড ডেট নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে ১৯ নভেম্বর।

মরক্কো, সৌদি আরব ও স্থানীয় প্রতিষ্ঠানের কাছ থেকে ১ লাখ ৯০ হাজার টন টিএসপি, ডিএপি ও ইউরিয়া সার কেনার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে সরকার। এতে ব্যয় হবে ৯৮৪ কোটি ৩ লাখ টাকা। অর্থ উপদেষ্টা ড. সালেহউদ্দিন আহমেদের সভাপতিত্বে গতকাল সরকারি ক্রয়সংক্রান্ত উপদেষ্টা পরিষদ কমিটির সভায় এ-সংক্রান্ত অনুমোদন দেয়া হয়। এছাড়া সভায় গম ও এলএনজি-সংক্রান্ত কয়েকটি প্রস্তাবও অনুমোদন করা হয়েছে।

ব্যাংকের যেকোনো ধরনের কার্ড, ইন্টারনেট ব্যাংকিং, এবং মোবাইল ব্যাংকিং সার্ভিসেস (এমএফএস) ব্যবহার করে আয়কর পরিশোধের খরচ কমিয়েছে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক।এখন থেকে কার্ড ও ইন্টারনেট ব্যাংকিংয়ের মাধ্যমে আয়কর পরিশোধ করলে ২৫ হাজার টাকা পর্যন্ত লেনদেনে গ্রাহকদের কাছ থেকে প্রতি লেনদেনে ২০ টাকা ফি নেওয়া যাবে। ২৫ হাজার টাকার বেশি হলে প্রতি লেনদেনে সর্বোচ্চ ৫০ টাকা আদায় করা যাবে।এমএফএস বা পিএসপি (লেনদেন সেবাদাতা প্রতিষ্ঠান) ওয়ালেট ব্যবহারের ক্ষেত্রে প্রতি লেনদেনে ১ শতাংশ বা সর্বোচ্চ ৩০ টাকা ফি নেওয়া হবে। এ ফি-এর মধ্যে মূল্য সংযোজন কর (ভ্যাট) অন্তর্ভুক্ত রয়েছে। বুধবার (১৩ নভেম্বর) এ নির্দেশনা সংক্রান্ত একটি সার্কুলার জারি করেছে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক।

Chattogram Port is set to fully implement a digital gate fee payment system for cargo vehicles by late November, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and expedite port operations. Initially introduced in July 2021, the digital payment process faced operational delays, but the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) now expects 100% efficiency by the end of this month.

Hefty budget-deficit financing bloats government borrowing to Tk595.16 billion in the first four months of the current fiscal year and much of the money goes for repaying debts to the central bank. Officials said Wednesday the ministry of finance borrowed Tk 595.16 billion from all the scheduled banks through issuing treasury bills and bonds during the July-October period while Tk 391.07 billion was paid to the central bank, according to a confidential report prepared by the Bangladesh Bank (BB) on government borrowing from the banking system. Actually, the government borrowed the money from the banks during the period of this fiscal year partly to meet budget deficit but its net borrowing stood over Tk 204.09 billion during the period. The net bank borrowing of the government was deficit Tk 31.82 billion in the same period of the FY'24, according to the official figures.

The construction cost of a 122.55-km rail line, including 37.49km loop, from Shahid M Monsur Ali Rail Station in Sirajganj to Bogura is set to rise by 63 per cent due to the project delays caused by complexities, mainly a delay in securing Indian loans. The project, which was approved in July 2018, was scheduled to be completed by June 2023. The project cost was estimated at Tk55.80 billion, with Tk 24.33 billion from the government and Tk31.47 billion from India's third Line of Credit.

Existing tax measures on the collection of plastic waste seem contradictory to the government's stance to curb environmental pollution, speakers said during a dialogue organized by Business Initiative Leading Development in the capital. Currently, a Value Added Tax (VAT) is imposed on the collection of plastic wastes while recycling is subject to paying taxes in advance. The home ministry has sounded an alarm about a possible crisis of edible oils during the holy month of Ramadan in March next, and suggested ensuring adequate stock of the key essential. BSRM Steels is going to launch its new plant at Mirsarai in January next year of an annual production capacity of 0.6 million tonnes of MS (Mild Steel) Rods, with an expectation for revenue boost. The country's largest steel manufacturer builds the new re-rolling mills at the cost of around $217 million, aiming to raise its share in the local steel market from 23 per cent to 34 per cent. In a stock exchange filing on Wednesday, the Chattogram-based steel manufacturer said the board of directors had decided to start commercial operation of the plant on January 1 next year.
