বহুজাতিক সিগারেট উৎপাদনকারী প্রতিষ্ঠান ব্রিটিশ আমেরিকান টোব্যাকো (বিএটি) বাংলাদেশ চলতি বছরের জানুয়ারি থেকে জুন পর্যন্ত ছয় মাসে মোট ২২ হাজার ৩৩৯ কোটি টাকার সিগারেট বিক্রি করেছে। কোম্পানিটির হাফ ইয়ারলি আর্থিক প্রতিবেদন সূত্রে এ তথ্য জানা গেছে। প্রতিবেদন অনুযায়ী, বিএটি বাংলাদেশের সিগারেট বিক্রি আগের বছরের একই সময়ের তুলনায় ৫ শতাংশ বেড়েছে।

A drastic fall in humanitarian funds and uncertainty about repatriation mark the seventh anniversary of Rohingya influx into Bangladesh, thereby putting both refugees and host communities at risk, experts said. Those involved in the humanitarian assistance at grass-roots level have cautioned that thousands at Rohingya camps are in peril as they have to compromise with food rationing and others. For the last couple of years, only 40 per cent of the humanitarian funds required for the refugees were received, according to officials.

Distinguished fellow of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Professor Dr Mustafizur Rahman has said the prices of essential commodities have increased by at least 50 per cent in the last two years. “It is very difficult to determine the price hike through the average inflation rate. The price of an item worth Tk 100 has now increased to Tk 150. Although the average inflation is said to be 10 to 12 per cent, prices of essential commodities have increased by at least 50 per cent,” Dr Mustafizur Rahman said.

স্বাস্থ্য ও পরিবার কল্যাণ উপদেষ্টা নূরজাহান বেগম বলেছেন, দেশের স্বাস্থ্য ব্যবস্থায় বিভিন্ন সমস্যা রয়েছে। এসব সমস্যা সমাধান করতে হলে সময় ও সবার সহযোগিতা একান্ত প্রয়োজন। আজ শনিবার (২৪ আগস্ট) নোয়াখালী জেলার বন্যাদুর্গত সোনাইমুড়ী উপজেলা পরিদর্শন শেষে তিনি এ কথা বলেন। নূরজাহান বেগম জানান, তিনি কাশীপুর বহুমুখী উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়, কাশীপুর মুহাম্মদিয়া ফাজিল মাদ্রাসা এবং ওয়াছেকপুর আল ফালাহ মডেল হাই স্কুল আশ্রয়কেন্দ্র পরিদর্শন করেছেন। তিনি বলেন, এখানে পানি বিশুদ্ধকরণ ট্যাবলেটের অপ্রতুলতা রয়েছে। সংশ্লিষ্টদের নির্দেশনা দেয়া হয়েছে যাতে প্রয়োজনীয় ওষুধ সামগ্রীর পর্যাপ্ত মজুদ থাকে। তিনি আরো বলেন, বন্যা পরবর্তী সময়ে ডায়রিয়া, কলেরা এবং চর্মরোগের মতো নানা রোগের প্রাদুর্ভাব দেখা দিতে পারে। এজন্য এখন থেকেই আমাদের সতর্ক হতে হবে।
