বাংলাদেশের বৈদেশিক মুদ্রার গ্রস বা মোট রিজার্ভ দাঁড়িয়েছে ২৭.২২ বিলিয়ন ডলারে। বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের মুখপাত্র ও নির্বাহী পরিচালক আরিফ হোসেন খান সাংবাদিকদের এ তথ্য জানিয়েছেন। আন্তর্জাতিক মুদ্রা তহবিল- আইএমএফের বিপিএম-৬ হিসাবপদ্ধতি অনুযায়ী, চলতি মাসের ১ ডিসেম্বর বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের গ্রস রিজার্ভ ছিল ২৬ দশমিক ৫১ বিলিয়ন ডলার। মূলত নিলামের মাধ্যমে বাণিজ্যিক ব্যাংক থেকে ডলার কেনার মাধ্যমে রিজার্ভ বাড়াচ্ছে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক। চলতি অর্থবছরে এখন পর্যন্ত আড়াই বিলিয়নের বেশি ডলার কিনেছে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক। বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের একজন ঊর্ধতন কর্মকর্তা বলেন, রেমিট্যান্সের প্রবাহ বাড়ার কারণে ব্যাংকে ডলার সরবরাহ আগের চেয়ে বেড়েছে। এজন্য ডলারের দর যেন পড়ে না যায়—সেজন্য নিলামের মাধ্যমে ডলার কিনছে কেন্দ্রীয় ব্যাংক।

চীনের বাণিজ্য উদ্বৃত্ত বা 'ট্রেড সারপ্লাস' প্রথমবারের মতো ১ ট্রিলিয়ন ডলারে পৌঁছেছে। সহজ কথায়, দেশটি যে পরিমাণ পণ্য আমদানি করে, তার চেয়ে ১ ট্রিলিয়ন ডলার বেশি মূল্যের পণ্য রপ্তানি করে। এটি একটি বিশাল মাইলফলক। চীনকে বলা হয় 'বিশ্বের কারখানা'। মোজা আর পর্দা থেকে শুরু করে ইলেকট্রিক গাড়ি—সবই তৈরি হয় সেখানে। চলতি বছরের প্রথম ১১ মাসে চীনের রপ্তানি বেড়ে ৩.৪ ট্রিলিয়ন ডলারে দাঁড়িয়েছে। অন্যদিকে আমদানি কিছুটা কমে হয়েছে ২.৩ ট্রিলিয়ন ডলার। ফলে দেশটির বাণিজ্য উদ্বৃত্ত দাঁড়িয়েছে প্রায় ১ ট্রিলিয়ন ডলারে। সোমবার চীনের কাস্টমস বিভাগ এই তথ্য জানিয়েছে। মার্কিন প্রেসিডেন্ট ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্পের বৈশ্বিক বাণিজ্য যুদ্ধ বা 'ট্রেড ওয়ার' সত্ত্বেও চীনের রপ্তানি রমরমা। যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বাণিজ্য ঘাটতি কমাতে ট্রাম্প অনেক দেশের ওপর শুল্ক আরোপ করেছিলেন। শুরুতে চীনের ওপর ১৪৫ শতাংশ শুল্ক বসানো হয়েছিল। পরে আলোচনার স্বার্থে তা কমানো হয়। কিন্তু চীন আমেরিকার বাইরের বাজারগুলোতে রপ্তানি বাড়িয়ে এই ধাক্কা সামলে নিয়েছে।

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has said that although South Asia is poised for strong economic performance, Bangladesh's growth will lag due to persistent weakness in its export sector. In its Asian Development Outlook (ADO) for December 2025, released today, the bank revised down Bangladesh's GDP growth forecast for FY26, while keeping the FY25 projection unchanged. Earlier in the September outlook, the ADB also trimmed its growth outlook for Bangladesh, forecasting the economy to expand by 5% in the current fiscal year, FY26, slightly down from its April projection of 5.1%.

The financial stability of eight state-run sugar mills is under threat as the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) struggles to secure adequate funds to pay sugarcane farmers in the ongoing 2025-26 crushing season. Despite having a staggering outstanding claim of Tk 80.80 billion against the government for trade gaps and subsidies, the corporation is short of a Tk 3.30 billion required to settle farmers' dues. This massive debt reflects the persistent financial distress plaguing the state-owned sugar mills. The BSFIC, under the Ministry of Industries, has requested the Ministry of Finance to take steps for approval and release of funds needed for payments, exposing a severe shortfall in meeting its obligations to farmers.

At a time when fiscal discipline is crucial for the economy to stabilise, it is not easy to navigate the tortuous course of financial policy and action. The contractionary monetary policy with domestic high interests followed by the country certainly proves useful in containing inflation for a short period but it cannot be a permanent recipe for stabilising the economy. High interest rates also constrains industries, particularly small and medium enterprises, from going whole hog for production. In worse case, factories and industries run below capacity and even are forced to shut down. Such industrial reversal also leaves workers, management and entrepreneurs without participation in the production process. But now that the governor of the Bangladesh Bank rules out reduction of interests in the near future, the outcome is likely to a below-par production in the majority of industries and continuation of the ongoing economic slowdown.

This year's COP30 failed to reach a consensus on finalising roadmaps and timeframe to phase out fossil fuel. However, UN member countries have been submitting their own Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) targets for reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission. Bangladesh has submitted its NDC reports and voluntarily offered to reduce GHG emission and increase renewable energy use. As per the NDC targets Bangladesh pledged to increase its share for electricity generation from renewable sources and reduce its reliance on fossil fuel use. The Renewable Energy Policy, 2025, Bangladesh targets to meet 20 per cent electricity demand within 2030 and 30 per cent within 2040 from renewable energy sources. As per International Renewable Energy Agency report (2024), India meets 24 per cent electric energy demands from renewable energy sources, Pakistan 17.16 per cent, Sri Lanka 39.7 per cent respectively. সুইস পণ্যের ওপর আরোপিত মার্কিন শুল্ক কমে এল। গত আগস্টে কার্যকর হওয়া ৩৯ শতাংশ এখন ১৫ শতাংশে নেমে এল। গতকাল সুইজারল্যান্ড সরকার জানিয়েছে, শুল্ক হ্রাসের এ প্রভাব ১৪ নভেম্বর থেকে সব রফতানির ওপর প্রযোজ্য হবে। খবর রয়টার্স। যুক্তরাষ্ট্র ও সুইজারল্যান্ড ১৪ নভেম্বর একটি প্রাথমিক বাণিজ্য চুক্তি স্বাক্ষর করে। সেখানে সুইস পণ্যের ওপর শুল্ক কমানোর প্রতিশ্রুতি দেয় ওয়াশিংটন। অন্যদিকে ২০২৮ সালের মধ্যে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে ২০ হাজার কোটি ডলারের বিনিয়োগ করার প্রতিশ্রুতি দেয় সুইস কোম্পানিগুলো।

নাসির সিনটেক্স গ্রুপের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক নাসিম বিশ্বাস বলেছেন, আধুনিক এবং অত্যন্ত স্বচ্ছ কাঁচ তৈরির জন্য ২০১৩ সালে 'নাসির ফ্লোট গ্লাস' নামে কারখানা তৈরি করা হয়। সেই কারখানায় উৎপাদিত গ্লাস এখন দেশের চাহিদার ৬৫ থেকে ৭০ শতাংশ সরবরাহ করছে। বর্তমানে প্রায় এক হাজার টন আন্তর্জাতিক মানের কাঁচ উৎপাদনের সক্ষমতা রয়েছে কারখানাটির। মঙ্গলবার (৯ ডিসেম্বর) রাজধানীর একটি হোটেলে ‘আর্কিটেকচার ফর গ্রিন লিভিং’ সেমিনারে তিনি এসব কথা বলেন। নাসির সিনটেক্স গ্রুপ এ সেমিনারের আয়োজন করে।
