দেশে ভোক্তা পর্যায়ে তরলীকৃত পেট্রোলিয়াম গ্যাসের (এলপিজি) দাম আরো বাড়িয়েছে বাংলাদেশ এনার্জি রেগুলেটরি কমিশন (বিইআরসি)। বাসাবাড়িতে ব্যবহৃত ১২ কেজির সিলিন্ডার গ্যাস গতকাল ৩৫ টাকা বাড়িয়ে নতুন দাম নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে। এ নিয়ে টানা পাঁচ মাস এলপি গ্যাসের দাম বাড়ানো হলো দেশে। বিইআরসি প্রতি মাসেই এলপিজির দাম নির্ধারণ করে। গতকাল সংস্থাটির কার্যালয়ে আয়োজিত সংবাদ সম্মেলনে নতুন দর ঘোষণা করেন চেয়ারম্যান জালাল আহমেদ। নতুন ঘোষণা অনুযায়ী, অক্টোবরের জন্য প্রতি ১২ কেজির সিলিন্ডারের দাম নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে ১ হাজার ৪৫৬ টাকা, সেপ্টেম্বরে যা ছিল ১ হাজার ৪২১ টাকা। ঘোষিত নতুন দর গতকাল সন্ধ্যা ৬টা থেকে কার্যকর হয়েছে।

Dhaka and Moscow failed to settle score on sanctions-impeded loan repayment and extension of the aid-disbursement tenure for the undisbursed credits from a US$11.38-billion commitment in a two-day meeting in Dhaka, officials said Wednesday. A Russian delegation sat with Economic Relations Division (ERD) for a two-day discussion, Tuesday-Wednesday, in Dhaka for resolving overdue issues, including the debt servicing against the loan for Rooppur nuclear power-plant project as it has halted for more than last two years, they said. At the meeting, presided over by ERD Secretary Shahriar Kader Siddiki, a host delegation discussed with a visiting 15-member Russian team over the two days. The Russian team was headed by Mamonov, Director, the Ministry of Finance in Russia.

Every day, between 350 and 400 migrant workers return to Bangladesh, many of them facing a difficult reality. Seventy percent of these returnees come from Saudi Arabia, the largest destination for Bangladeshi workers, driven home by the skyrocketing cost of work permits. Known as the Iqama fee, it now stands at an eye-watering 11,000 Saudi riyals per year – more than the annual income of many employed in domestic work, construction, or cleaning.
