Revenue sleuths have made a decisive move to reclaim siphoned-off assets of Bangladesh tycoons from five countries through claiming taxing rights under the double-taxation-avoidance agreement (DTAA) as the mechanism. Revenue officials say the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) has listed the UK, the USA, Canada, Singapore and the UAE, used by launderers as tax havens, and is seeking data from the owners and close associates of top business groups in Bangladesh. Despite numerous challenges like labour unrest, energy crisis, high interest rate and rising production costs, the country's readymade garment (RMG) sector has sustained a moderate export growth this year. According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Bangladesh received US$37.71 billion from January to November in 2024, marking a 6.23-percent growth. In comparison, export earnings from the sector were US$32.64 billion during the corresponding period of 2023, EPB revised data show. Exporters highlighted that recurring workers' protests especially in the industrial belt of Ashulia over a number of demands have been a cause of concern among buyers. They are still worried, as law and order situation has not fully improved. They said that 2025 could offer a better outlook if these pressing issues, including energy supply and law and order, are addressed.

Brokerage firms have got four more months to install uniform, un-editable back-office software from selective vendors to ensure protection of the investors' money. The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has recently issued a letter, extending the timeframe from December 31 this year, following a request by the DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh. It also asked the bourses to submit a detailed plan by January 7 next year, informing the regulator of when and how the brokerage firms will install the software. The exchanges have also been instructed to submit a monthly progress report by the first week of every month.

The agriculture ministry has almost doubled the allocation for potato preservation in the current fiscal year in the face of prolonged market volatility. The project titled "Diversified Use, Conservation, and Marketing Development of Potatoes" initially had an allocation of Tk 71.4 million in FY25. The amount has now been revised to Tk 137.2 million. Stored potato prices reached an all-time high of Tk 75-85 a kg this year. However, prices have now decreased to Tk 40-60 a kg across the country, thanks to the increased supply of newly harvested varieties. The Department of Agricultural Marketing (DAM) under the agriculture ministry has initiated plans to construct model houses for potato preservation.
