The interim government is moving forward with finalising a post-LDC survival strategy by October as ministries continue to work on the draft transition plan for Bangladesh's graduation from the least developed country (LDC) status in 2026. Despite calls from business leaders to delay the graduation following the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August, no instructions have been issued to postpone the timeline. The Economic Relations Division (ERD) has sought input from various ministries to develop the strategy, which will outline steps for the country's transition both before and after graduation.

The key index of the Dhaka bourse opened higher on the first trading hour session in the opening day of this week as price most of the stocks increased. During the session till 10:46am, the major index DSEX of the Dhaka Stock Exchange rose by 24 points to reach at 5,663, while the blue-chip index DS30 gained 5 points to 2,070. Among the traded issues, 209 advanced, 94 declined and 46 remained unchanged.

ভারতে দুই হাজার মেগাওয়াটের সৌরবিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্র প্রকল্পের জন্য দরপত্র আহ্বান করা হয় গত বছরের মার্চে। দেশটির রাষ্ট্রায়ত্ত সংস্থা সোলার এনার্জি করপোরেশন অব ইন্ডিয়া (এসইসিআই) এ দরপত্র আহ্বান করে। দরপত্রে অংশ নিয়ে বিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্র নির্মাণের কাজ পায় ছয় কোম্পানি। বিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্রে প্রতি কিলোওয়াট ঘণ্টা বিদ্যুতের দাম অনুমোদন হয় ৩ সেন্টে, যা ভারতীয় মুদ্রায় ২ রুপি ৬০ পয়সা। ডলারের বিনিময় হার ১১৯ টাকা ৪৮ পয়সা হিসাবে ওই বিদ্যুতের ট্যারিফ বাংলাদেশী মুদ্রায় দাঁড়ায় ৩ টাকা ৫৮ পয়সা। এত কম দামে বিদ্যুতের ক্রয়চুক্তি দেশটিতে বেশ আলোচনাও তুলেছে। ‘‌বিল্ড-ওউন-অপারেট’ মডেলের ভিত্তিতে এ বিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্র থেকে ২৫ বছর মেয়াদে বিদ্যুৎ কিনবে এসইসিআই। দেশটিতে সাম্প্রতিককালে অনুমোদন দেয়া অন্যান্য বিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্রেও ট্যারিফ নির্ধারণ হয়েছে প্রতি কিলোওয়াট ঘণ্টা ৩ থেকে সাড়ে ৪ সেন্টের মধ্যে।

দেশের আর্থিক খাত সংস্কারে শর্ত সাপেক্ষে সব ধরনের সহায়তা দেবে বিশ্বব্যাংক ও ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ফাইনান্স কর্পোরেশন (আইএফসি)। রোববার (২৯ সেপ্টেম্বর) এ দুটি সংস্থার প্রতিনিধির সঙ্গে বৈঠক শেষে সাংবাদিকদের এ কথা জানান অর্থ উপদেষ্টা ড. সালেহউদ্দিন আহমেদ। তিনি বলেন, এ অর্থ পাওয়া গেলে ব্যাংক ও জাতীয় রাজস্ব বোর্ড সংস্কারে ব্যয় হবে। যদিও ঋণ সহায়তার পরিমাণ কত তা জানাননি অর্থ উপদেষ্টা। অক্টোবরে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে অনুষ্ঠিত বিশ্বব্যাংকের বৈঠকে ঋণের পরিমাণ চূড়ান্ত হবে বলে জানানো হয়েছে।

দীর্ঘ ১৪ মাস বন্ধের পর নন-বাসমতী চাল রফতানিতে নিষেধাজ্ঞা প্রত্যাহার করে নিয়েছে ভারত। একই সঙ্গে রফতানি শুল্ক ২০ থেকে কমিয়ে নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে ১০ শতাংশ। পাশাপাশি প্রতি টন চালের সর্বনিম্ন রফতানি মূল্য নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে ৪৯০ ডলার (বর্তমান বিনিময় হার অনুযায়ী ৫৮ হাজার ৫০০ টাকার কিছু বেশি)। এ বিষয়ে ভারতের ডিরেক্টরেট জেনারেল অব ফরেন ট্রেডের (ডিজিটিএফ) এক নোটিফিকেশনে বলা হয়, ‘নন-বাসমতী সাদা চালের (সেমি-মিলড, মিলড, পলিশ করা বা ছাড়াসহ সব ধরনের) রফতানি নীতিতে সংশোধন এনে তা নিষিদ্ধ থেকে উন্মুক্ত করে দেয়া হলো। এক্ষেত্রে প্রতি টন চালের সর্বনিম্ন রফতানি মূল্য হবে ৪৯০ ডলার। এ আদেশ জারির পর থেকে পরবর্তী নির্দেশ না আসা পর্যন্ত বলবৎ থাকবে।’

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has identified five areas including the reformation of wage structure and policy, and labour law amendments to address the ongoing labour unrest in the country’s readymade garment sector. In a statement on Sunday, the ILO Dhaka country office said it is closely monitoring the labour unrest in Ready-Made Garment (RMG) and other sectors arising from a range of worker grievances, highlighting significant systemic issues that demand urgent attention and resolution.At least, 65 factories suspended operation on Sunday in Savar, Ashulia and Zirani area until noon, according to the sources.

Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced that the World Bank will provide $300 million to support the Bangladesh Clean Air Project (BCAP), reads a press release. This initiative aims to strengthen air quality management and reduce emissions from key sectors. The project will be funded by an International Development Association (IDA) credit, along with a potential grant for clean cooking initiatives as part of the National Air Quality Management Plan. The advisor shared this news following a high-level meeting held at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, where Vice President of the World Bank South Asia Region Martin Raiser and World Bank's Country Director for Bangladesh Abdoulaye Seck met her today (29 September), adds the release. During the meeting, the Environment adviser also called for the World Bank's assistance in waste management and the restoration of Dhaka's canals to create a "blue network."

UN Under Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States Rabab Fatima has met Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus and assured him of her office's full support for Bangladesh's smooth transition toward LDC graduation. The meeting was held in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. "I commended Bangladesh for its longstanding support to UNOHRLLS's work and strong commitment to LDC issues," she said, adding that it was an honour to meet the chief adviser.

The High Court has asked the government to submit a list of all the immovable properties owned by S Alam Group. A HC bench of Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque gave the order today (September 29) after conducting a hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard. Petitioner and Lawyer Md Rokonuzzaman said that the HC has ordered the law secretary and director general of Directorate General of Registration to submit the list within one month.

বাংলাদেশ পরিসংখ্যান ব্যুরোর (বিবিএস) তথ্যকে নির্ভরযোগ্য মনে করেন না এক-তৃতীয়াংশেরও বেশি ব্যবহারকারী। বিশেষ করে মূল্যস্ফীতি পরিসংখ্যান নিয়ে তাদের অবিশ্বাস সবচেয়ে বেশি। সংশয় রয়েছে বিবিএসের অন্য সব তথ্য নিয়েও। এ তথ্য উঠে এসেছে খোদ বিবিএস পরিচালিত এক জরিপেই। বাংলাদেশ উন্নয়ন গবেষণা কেন্দ্রের (বিআইডিএস) সঙ্গে যৌথভাবে বিবিএসের এ জরিপ পরিচালিত হয়। ‘ব্যবহারকারী সন্তুষ্টি জরিপ-২০২৪’ শীর্ষক এ জরিপের ফল প্রকাশ হয়েছে গত বৃহস্পতিবার। এতে উঠে আসে, বিবিএসের তথ্য ব্যবহারকারীদের বড় একটি অংশই সংস্থাটির পরিসংখ্যান বিশ্বাসযোগ্য মনে করেন না। বিশেষ করে মূল্যস্ফীতিসংক্রান্ত পরিসংখ্যান নিয়ে সবচেয়ে বেশি প্রশ্ন রয়েছে তাদের।
