Bangladesh Bank will no more extend liquidity support to weak and troubled banks by printing money rather the process of rescuing them now will be different, says Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur. Agriculture Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stressed for the need to increase agricultural production by providing high-quality seeds and other inputs. During a meeting at the Secretariat, the adviser underscored that "the seeds provided to farmers must be of the highest quality. Poor-quality seeds result in substandard crop yields, affecting overall agricultural productivity." Secretary Dr Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian, senior ministry officials, and heads of various departments and organizations were also present at the meeting.

Mansur gave the assurance Monday to top executives of a group of leading commercial banks, now that banking and financial sector passes through changes under the interim government. Instead of applying too many interventions that the previous regime of the central bank led by immediate-past governor Abdur Rouf Talukder often exercised bypassing the market dynamics, the new governor told the bankers, exchange and interest rates would be determined by the market.

Credit ratings agency Fitch has downgraded the Israeli government's credit ratings from A+ to A, with the outlook remaining unchanged at "negative." Fitch said in a report on Monday night that the downgrade reflects the impact of the continuation of the war in Gaza, heightened geopolitical risks, and military operations on multiple fronts, reports Xinhua. It noted that public finances of Israel have been hit, and projected a budget deficit of 7.8 per cent of GDP in 2024 and debt to remain above 70 per cent of GDP in the medium term.
