Bangladesh and India must maintain their relationship for the benefit of both the countries, Interim government Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus said in an interview with German broadcaster DW. Onion prices in Dhaka have increased significantly in the past month, rising from Tk80-90 per kg to Tk110-120 per kg, a 33% increase. This increase coincides with a 40% duty imposed by India on onion exports and rising onion prices within India itself, according to onion importers and marketers. Cold storage operators have sought an extension for the rescheduling of their bank loans until December 2024, industry sources said. The Bangladesh Cold Storage Association (BCSA) has recently wrote to the finance and commerce adviser to address this issue. As per the BRPD Circular No. 47, issued in October 2023, the loan rescheduling facility for cold storage operators had been extended until November 30, 2023. But since then, the economy has slowed due to a combination of global economic uncertainties and domestic challenges.

The securities regulator cancelled its permission to listed textile sector firm Alif Industries for collection of Tk 2 billion by issuing shares to its directors after repeated time extension had failed to serve the purpose. The new order was issued by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) on Wednesday. According to the press release, Alif Industries had sought the regulator's consent to raise the money by giving shares to its existing directors at Tk 22 each. The BSEC accepted the proposal in January last year but the directors did not subscribe the shares even when the time for subscription got extended several times.

The closed Kazipara and Mirpur-10 stations of the metro rail are expected to reopen this month (September). But the exact date is yet to be finalised. DMTCL Managing Director Mohammad Abdur Rauf told TBS that a technical team has been assigned to address the issues. "We are making every effort to reopen the two closed stations within this month.
