The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has set up a mini cold storage with a capacity of 10 tonnes for the preservation of mangoes in Bagha upazila of Rajshahi. The cold storage has been set up on the land of Shafiqul Islam, a local big mango grower, under the Rajshahi Division's Agricultural Development Project through the extension of modern technology.

The Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) has issued show-cause notices to 50 microfinance institutions (MFIs) to explain why they failed to submit their annual financial reports for 2022-23. MFIs were supposed to submit financial reports for 2022-23 by September 2023 -- three months after the financial year ends. Initially, 102 of the total 750 non-governmental microfinance institutions failed to submit their annual audited financial reports for 2022-23 to the regulator until January. Subsequently, around 70 MFIs submitted reports, but 50 completely failed to do so.

জ্বালানি তেল উত্তোলন কমিয়ে আনার নীতি অব্যাহত রাখার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে ওপেক প্লাস। অক্টোবর থেকে উত্তোলন কমানোর নীতি ধীরে ধীরে শিথিল করার পরিকল্পনাও জানিয়েছে জ্বালানি তেল রফতানিকারক দেশগুলোর সংগঠনটি। তবে বাজারের অবস্থার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে এ পরিকল্পনা স্থগিত করা কিংবা উত্তোলন আবারো কমিয়ে দেয়ার মতো সিদ্ধান্তও আসতে পারে। সম্প্রতি ওপেক প্লাসের জয়েন্ট মিনিস্টারিয়াল মনিটরিং কমিটির (জেএমএমসি) এক বৈঠকে এসব সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়া হয়। এতে অনলাইনে যুক্ত হন সংগঠনটির সদস্য দেশগুলোর মন্ত্রীরা । খবর রয়টার্স। ওপেক প্লাস বর্তমানে দৈনিক ৫৮ লাখ ৬০ হাজার ব্যারেল হারে জ্বালানি তেল উত্তোলন কমিয়ে আনছে, যা বৈশ্বিক চাহিদার প্রায় ৫ দশমিক ৭ শতাংশ। এর আগে বৈশ্বিক চাহিদা নিয়ে তৈরি আশঙ্কা এবং ওপেক প্লাসবহির্ভূত দেশগুলোর সরবরাহ বাড়ায় ২০২২ সালে বাজারে অবস্থান শক্তিশালী করতে বেশকিছু পদক্ষেপ নেয় সংগঠনটির সদস্য দেশগুলো। এরই অংশ হিসেবে জ্বালানি তেল উত্তোলন কমিয়ে আনছে তারা।

Amid foaming unrest in Bangladesh over students' job quota reform movement, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has postponed halfway its fact-finding mission on an assured US$800 million worth of budgetary support to the country. Officials concerned feared that the withdrawal of the mission might delay the disbursements of the loan - a much-expected financing during this crunch time when the country is struggling to keep its foreign exchange reserves stay afloat. The Manila-based lender had started its mission, meant for exploring the possibilities and necessity of the support, on July 7 last and was supposed to conclude it on July 17 with a wrap-up meeting with the Economic Relations Division (ERD).

The equity market has remained stunted relative to the growth of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Bangladesh's nominal GDP more than tripled in the decade through FY24 to Tk 50.50 trillion, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), but the equity market rose only 11.6 per cent to Tk 3.63 trillion during the same period. That means the market has failed to keep pace with the economy. However, in an ideal case a stock market should get bigger as the economy it represents does -- over time.
