দেশের পূর্বাঞ্চলে হওয়া বন্যার অন্যতম ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত ফেনীর পরশুরাম উপজেলার অধিকাংশ রাস্তা ও বাড়ি থেকে পানি নেমেছে গত তিনদিনে। কিন্তু প্রধান সড়কসহ বেশিরভাগ রাস্তাই এখন চলাচলের অনুপযোগী। অধিকাংশ কাঁচা বাড়ি মাটির সাথে মিশে গিয়েছে, পানিতে ভাসছে মৃত গরু, ছাগল, হাঁস, মুরগী। চারিদিকে এসব মৃত জীব জন্তুর দুর্গন্ধ, আবার প্রত্যন্ত এলাকাগুলোতে ঠিকভাবে পৌঁছাচ্ছে না ত্রাণ সামগ্রী। শুধু ফেনীর পরশুরামই নয়, দেশের পূর্বাঞ্চলের ১১টি জেলার ৭৪ উপজেলার ৫৪১টি ইউনিয়ন ও পৌরসভায় ৫৬ লাখেরও বেশি মানুষ ক্ষতির শিকার।

Bangladeshi expatriates demanded steps from the government to check air ticket-related malpractices and ensure proper services to the clients for online air ticket booking. They also sought a special savings scheme for migrant Bangladeshis to enhance remittance inflow to the country. These demands were made at The World Conference Series 2024 titled "Branding Bangladesh" held at a city hotel in London on Monday.

In 2011, the then president Zillur Rahman defied a constitutional requirement by signing the 15th amendment to the Constitution bill passed by the Parliament proposing cancellation of the election time caretaker government system along with at least 55 changes in the country's charter. The bill which was sent to Bangabhaban on 2 July seeking his assent to it, also proposed changes in the preamble and article 8 of the Constitution which put president Zillur under the obligation to act on people's advice through a referendum. Article 8 deals with four fundamental principles of the state. Before it was changed to its current version by the 15th amendment act, the article 142 (1A) of the Constitution said a constitution amendment bill "which provides for the amendment of the Preamble or any provision of articles 8, 48 or 56 or this article, is presented to the President for assent, the President, shall, within the period of seven days after the Bill is presented to him, cause to be referred to a referendum the question whether the Bill should or should not be assented to." But then president Zillur did not follow the legal requirement stipulated in the article 142(1A) of the constitution. The moment he was signing the controversial bill into law on 3 July at his office in Bangabhaban, he was legally required to order the Election Commission to conduct a referendum seeking their advice whether he should or should not assent to the bill.

Banking industry saw a record-high single-month deposit outflow worth Tk 200 billion last June, largely for panic withdrawals and hundi transactions, sources said. The surge in deposit flight added up to pressure on the overall liquidity situation in the sector, sometimes needing fund feeding to banks by the central bank. A stark fact is that the volume of mattress money or currency outside the banks ballooned to Tk 2.90 trillion by the end of June 2024 from Tk 2.70 billion recorded in the previous month, according to latest statistics of Bangladesh Bank (BB).
