পানি ব্যবস্থাপনায় ১০ হাজার কোটি পাউন্ড ব্যয় করবে যুক্তরাজ্য |
ইংল্যান্ড ও ওয়েলসের জরাজীর্ণ পানি সরবরাহ ও পয়োনিষ্কাশন ব্যবস্থা সংস্কারে ১০ হাজার ৪০০ কোটি পাউন্ড ব্যয়ের একটি বড় পরিকল্পনা হাতে নিয়েছে নিয়ন্ত্রক সংস্থা অফওয়াট। এ খাতের ইতিহাসে এটিই সবচেয়ে বড় বিনিয়োগ। মূলত গত কয়েক দশকের বিনিয়োগ ঘাটতি মেটাতে ও পরিবেশ দূষণ রোধে এ উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে দেশটির পানি কোম্পানিগুলো। খবর দ্য গার্ডিয়ান।২০২৫-৩০ সালের মধ্যে পাইপলাইন ও পানি পরিশোধন ব্যবস্থা উন্নত করতে এ অর্থ ব্যয় করা হবে। এর আগে গত পাঁচ বছরে এ খাতে ব্যয়ের পরিমাণ ছিল ৫ হাজার ১০০ কোটি পাউন্ড। সে সময় খরচ মেটাতে ২০২৪ সালের ডিসেম্বরে গ্রাহকদের পানির বিল গড়ে ৩৬ শতাংশ বাড়ানোর অনুমতি দেয় নিয়ন্ত্রক সংস্থাটি। নদী ও সাগরে বর্জ্য ছড়িয়ে পড়া নিয়ে যুক্তরাজ্যজুড়ে যখন বিক্ষোভ চলছিল, তখন বিল বাড়ানোর এ সিদ্ধান্ত রাজনৈতিকভাবে বড় চ্যালেঞ্জ তৈরি করেছিল। |

Saving Dhaka's Wetlands |
The Dhaka North City Corporation's (DNCC’s) recent call for a moratorium on the sale and conversion of lands in areas earmarked under the Detailed Area Plan (DAP) is most pragmatic. Alongside this, the DNCC has urged restrictions on tax collection in these areas to help preserve the waterbodies, open fields and parks as envisioned in the DAP, which is vital for improving the capital's environment, biodiversity and quality of life. Reportedly, the DNCC has also initiated plans to create water-centric parks in areas such as Badda, Aftabnagar and Mirpur. If implemented, these waterparks would not only serve as areas for water retention but also add scenic beauty and relief to the otherwise lifeless concrete jungle of Dhaka.
The DAP, an ambitious urban development blueprint for 2022-2035, designates specific areas as wetlands, including waterbodies, flood flow zones and water retention areas. These ecological spaces are indispensable for flood management, groundwater recharge and maintaining biodiversity. Yet, over the years, most of Dhaka's wetlands have indiscriminately been filled up, exposing the city to irreversible environmental degradation. Once teemed with fish and migratory birds, these wetlands have been reduced to barren land and aggressively occupied by real estate developments or industries. This reckless encroachment has been driven by runaway population growth, poor governance and an unrestrained culture of land grabbing. |

Bangladesh’s coastal waters more polluted with microplastics than China’s: Study |
A recent doctoral study has found that coastal and estuarine areas in Bangladesh are more polluted with microplastics than those in China, posing a threat to marine life, human health, and pollution control efforts. The study, led by Md Mazharul Islam, instructor at the Bangladesh Marine Fisheries Academy, and supervised by Prof Minggang Cai at Xiamen University, compares microplastic pollution in the northern Bay of Bengal and China's Xiamen Bay. This is the first in-depth study to look at microplastics in water, sediment, and fish tissue in these two major coastal regions. Using advanced spectroscopic tools and ecological risk assessments, the research highlights the urgent need for stronger policy action—particularly in Bangladesh—to tackle growing marine pollution.

Water supply cost set to rise by Tk 28.28b more |
The cost of the first investment initiative by the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA) to bring water to the capital from the Meghna is set to rise by another Tk 28.28 billion. The Local Government Division (LGD) has submitted the third revision proposal for the project styled 'Dhaka Environmentally Sustainable Water Supply Project' at a cost of Tk 109.75 billion-an increase of 35 per cent from the latest revised estimate of Tk 81.47 billion. |

Beijing ready to help Dhaka execute Teesta projec |
China is ready to help Bangladesh in implementing the stalled Teesta River water-management project if the government wants, says the Chinese envoy detailing new plans of cooperation following regime change here.
As Ambassador Yao Wen spoke Tuesday in Dhaka on the Teesta project, northerners-commoners, politicians and civil-society rights campaigners- in their thousands gatherd during last couple of days at 11 points in five northern districts on demand for immediate action to implement the master plan for the river-water management. The Teesta River Protection Movement organised the event. |

দেশের ১ হাজার ১৫৬ নদ-নদীর খসড়া তালিকা প্রকাশ |
দেশে নদ-নদীর খসড়া তালিকা করা হয়েছে। সরকারের পানিসম্পদ মন্ত্রণালয় এ খসড়া তালিকা প্রকাশ করেছে। গতকাল রাজধানীর গ্রিন রোডে পানি ভবনে ‘বাংলাদেশের নদ-নদীর সংখ্যা নির্ধারণ’ বিষয়ক অবহিতকরণ সেমিনারে এ তালিকা প্রকাশ করা হয়।
মন্ত্রণালয়ের তথ্যমতে, খসড়া হিসেবে নদ-নদীর সংখ্যা ১ হাজার ১৫৬। বিভাগীয় কমিশনারের কার্যালয় থেকে পাওয়া সংখ্যা যাচাইয়ের পর এ তালিকা প্রকাশ করা হয়েছে। আরো যাচাই-বাছাইয়ের পর নদ-নদীর চূড়ান্ত তালিকা প্রকাশ করা হবে।
এ সময় পানিসম্পদ এবং পরিবেশ, বন ও জলবায়ু মন্ত্রণালয়ের উপদেষ্টা সৈয়দা রিজওয়ানা হাসান বলেন, ‘সমন্বিতভাবে উদ্যোগটা নিয়েছি। আগে এক মন্ত্রণালয়ের সঙ্গে অন্য মন্ত্রণালয়ের যোগসূত্র থাকত না। এবার দুইটা মন্ত্রণালয়ের সমন্বয়ে এ খসড়া তৈরি করা হয়েছে। আগামী পয়লা বৈশাখ আমরা সম্পূর্ণ তালিকা প্রকাশ করব। যদি ভূমি মন্ত্রণালয়কে যুক্ত করতে হয় আমরা তা করব এবং নদীর তালিকাটা সঠিকভাবে করার চেষ্টা করব।’ |
